There are times when its useful to be able to help nature with the tones on the day. I will sometimes tweak a shot but often end up discarding it as it wasn't quite the shot I wanted. Its good to have the technology at our fingertips though & every now n then it makes a mediocre shot into sumat a bit more special

Thanks for the comments guys. Processing was a bit of a rush job. There is some detail in the shadows Neill, but not a whole lot. We'll see what Lightroom 4 can do......

I like the second one, for two reasons, I like to stillness of the water and also the cloud/sky is far more interesting than the first. The only thing missing is some detail that's been lost in the shadows. If this can be brought out in post then for me a clear winner out of the two.

Ah but thats the joy of landscape, theres x amount of trips that dont live up to their promise but those rare ones that do make it worth all the early starts, cold feet and fingers, fuel and time. Its a masochistic pastime for sure but one Id not want to give up easily

Having just bought my first SLR mate (I went with the Canon) I want to do plenty of snappy happy trips myself - living right near macc forest I'll start with there! As for other goals - I've entered a 70.3 triathlon in July and want to cycle john ogroats to lands end - both of which I am doing for the Christie to add to the charity work from last year

Hi Neil, nice post. I like the location shot so that we have an idea of the lighting and the finished image is good. Not sure about the crop just cutting off her toe? How about a picture of the home-made grid, it could be the incorporated in another post.

Love the warmth in the indoor portrait quite a contrast to the outdoor version (probably rhododendron or azalea at this time of year ) .Have a strong preference for using available light over flash and these prove it
